Across the wide ocean these days from my kin and crewmates, I was hoping to replace some Skyping with some skullduggery.
That is, we could team up online to chase treasure and glory in that thar new online Pirates of the Caribbean game. To demo how it works, I set up my account just last week.
I started with just “Besty”–not a misspelling so much as a family tease-name. She had battled her way up to level 3 by the time I added “Sven.” What a surprise! Low-level Sven has had more than 10 invitations (to friendship or crew); the more-skilled and longer-played Besty only got two. Invitations really help get to higher-level game play–I hadn’t realized how much Besty was missing out on.
Scurvy dogs! What part of “avatar” don’t pirates understand?

All right, since nobody else is asking the obvious question, I will: is there a discernible pattern in the genders of the avatars inviting “Sven” and “Besty” respectively?

Arrrrr! ‘Tis a good question, matey, and one I should have asked myself.
Avatar gender–aye, let’s call them “mave” and “femave”?
All but one of 12 avatars inviting Besty and Sven were mave.
So maybe we femaves should do a bit more reaching out? Tho the only femave who invited somebody asked Sven.

Probably means that 90+% of players are men (or more likely boys) and a femave’s best bet is to commendeer a ship, give it a catchy name like “The Valkyrie” and recruit an all-femave crew under the slogan “Sail the seven seas – meet interesting men – and KILL them!”.
With that going on, I guess I won’t be signing up any time soon… ;)

Shiver me timbers, ye must have pirate ancestors! Or Viking ones maybe?
Ye can’t kill other pirates except for “enemies” who are non-player characters. So sign on with no fear–and send me Flickr email via Flickr if ye want to help crew Sven’s “Red Queen” galleon or Besty’s “Star-Chaser Queen”
That said, when I do figure out how recruit ship crews, I am definitely going to gather up both maves and femaves!

That was probably my Bush Pig ancestry speaking.
And this must be your recruitment video:

Admittedly tempting, but too much of a time sink, I’m afraid… :)

Great video!
We bloggers do know about time sinks, I’m afraid.
More data from a now-more-experienced Besty: if you hang out by the dock, that’s where people always want crew!
