This just in — at the Nobel banquet tonight “Betzy Devine Wilczek” will be walking down marble stairs with the charming and funny Barry Sharpless, who won a Nobel for chemistry in 2001.
And I also get to talk to, on my right, Sweden’s Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, a former Prime Minister who opened a Swedish Embassy in Second Life. And he has a blog!
This is going to be just so much fun!

Somebody seems to have made an inspired choice. You probably wouldn’t like Bildt’s politics (closest thing to a classic liberal — in the original meaning of the word — on offer among high-ranking Swedish politicians), but you’ll like each other. Topics which you may want to avoid: taxes, Bosnian war stories (Kosovo’s future is fine if you want a one-hour lecture) and stock options in Vostok Nafta.

You did great on TV Betsy, I just watched you appear there. I wish you and yous husband good luck tonight, I hope things go well and that you have fun. Still remember the wonderful accounts you wrote back in 2004, and found my way back now when I saw your name at the table of honour.

Thanks, TA! You offer inspired evidence that Google and Wikipedia can not really substitute for kind clever friends.
Hello again, Sofia, how nice to re-see my favorite Grand Duchess! I am still recovering from last night, just a bit, but am still looking forward to everything else. Being on TV was much less scary than I had feared, not least because I was imagining that nobody I know would see me, but I’m glad to hear you thought that I did all right, at least before all the dancing started.
