In between parties, I’m visiting Second Sweden

Visiting Second Sweden

As you can see, my Second Life avatar, here shown visiting Second Life’s House of Sweden, looks exactly like me except for her massive investment in many styles of cotton-candy and bubblegum pink hair.

This Second Life Swedish embassy has many features real embassies sadly lack–including a sauna. Also, if you visit outside normal business hours, you can sit down at one of the shiny reception computers and pretend to blog!

Interesting opening ceremony. “Just stand there and hold those scissors, Carl, and I’ll run into them with the ribbon (goodbye, cruel world!).”

A Swedish avatar (swavatar?) will evidently do anything for its country. ;)

Anyway, happy birthday! Am I too late to buy you that cup of coffee, or are you hanging around for the Lucia celebration?

Coffee sounds like fun, and of course I wouldn’t miss Lucia. We head out on Dec. 16, to Cambridge-times-two…a physics conference in England followed by the trip home for Christmas in New England.

I’m sure the fun would be entirely on my part. Unfortunately for me, I won’t make it. Been up all night torturing some recalcitrant code, and it still isn’t working right. :(

Oh well. It’s not like you’re missing anything. To the extent I ever manage to be funny ha-ha, I am far better at it in writing than in real time anyway. So I’ll just wish you a nice Lucia & flight to Cambridges #2 and #1 while I return to the torture chamber.

In fact, I also missed this morning’s Alba Nova Lucia because we were treated to Lucia songs and procession at last night’s late night party on Alba Nova.

So my plan to get up for a 7 a.m. Lucia this morning was undermined by that and also by having stayed up, once again, very late last night.

Tonight I am hoping for even more Lucia-ness at the Green Frog Luciabal, although IIRC that is a bit more, ahem, unconventional than the normal one.
