I have been asked to blog some fine New Zealand landscapes.
Our first morning in Palmerston North, I saw something amazing without even getting up from our motel breakfast table.
Palm trees? umbrella tables? blue summer sky (which doesn’t come through in this photo)?
What took my breath away was the wide, wide open door. Yes, I am in a place now where people indoors enjoy full contact with the warm breeze coming from outdoors.
I love January in Palmerston North!

Welcome to the country Betsy! Caught Frank on the radio yesterday morning and found this blog via his wikipedia page. As a former Palmy resident (where I completed a physics degree of all things) I’m not surprised you noticed the wind! Do check out some more of the country if time permits…

OK, that does it: I am now officially envious! A Nobel party I can do without (come think of it, I literally did once, a long, long time ago), but who would say no to summer in January?
Not to mention that you also get to enjoy the fabled antipodal night sky, and with it a shot at winning no less than the “Southern Sky Showpiece Award”:

You call it jetlag, I call it oportunity knocking. :)

I am presently transcribing old “Morning Stories” and chose yours, since I am a blogger and my daughter lives in Boston. Hearing how disappointed you were at so little e-mail, I decided I had to drop by and say hello. I’ve never been to New Zealand, but I fell in love with Australia and would love to be there again.

That’s a starry suggestion, TA–thanks!
Basykes, if your daughter lives in Boston does she have a blog yet?
I’m now up in Auckland, in the even more semitropical (hmmm that sounds wrong) north of New Zealand. Sadly, our motel charges by the megabyte so I won’t be uploading my new photos anytime soon, not even the sign in the local park that asks people not to abandon chickens there.

No–daughter does not have a blog. She’s much more protective of her privacy than her mother (and, since she’s a teacher, she’s sometimes appalled at what her students find out about her on the net!)
(Great sign about the chickens!)
