Why can’t I be more like Adam Curry?

AdamCurry: Adam Curry blogging from Iraq
“>

OK, aside from the fact that I’m not male, not a media idol on any continent, and not six foot four inches tall…

Adam has organized a road tour into Iraq, traveling the country,
talking with locals and soldiers, broadcasting live from
makeshift studios, and sleeping in tents. And he still finds time to
write in his <a href=weblog every single day.

So aside from the fact that Adam writes a pretty darn good weblog–he’s Feedster’s Feed of the Day to inspire the rest of us to sit ourselves down and…

Write something!

Every.

Day.

Wouldn’t it be a lot cooler if a non-former-MTV-VJ went to a country which has media exposure approaching zero instead of a country which has media exposure approaching full? A non-former-MTV-VJ, say, with a small readership but who blogs well about a diverse range of subjects and can take decent photographs? Someone who will accept with humility subsidization of the cost of the flight and of expenses incurred during said trip?

I nominate the country to be any country in Africa other than the ones currently fighting civil wars, and I nominate myself–and a friend who agrees with me that our going to a continent we’ve never been to would be, in West Coast parlance, hella cool–for such a venture.

Now, to find someone with enough disposable money but who also understands the power of blogging…

Richard, what you propose is cool–but that doesn’t make what Adam is doing less cool in my eyes.

Yeah but what you have to realize here is this is not your run of the mill radio station remote. Adam brought it all, console, cd decks and tunes. It’s a radio studio in Iraq. Now what US broadcaster is smart enough to do this? And yes he does have the bandwidth to do the blog. The people in Holland are really into btw. You can hear the live stream from Veronica (his station) at 12 Mid EST… It sounds great.

Fine, I’ll admit to the coolness of it. Doing something new with an old medium is pretty cool. But doing something where there isn’t already a major media presence is cooler.

Betsy, you are Adam Curry. Just not as tall. Or as male. Or as Dutch. But you pretty much are Adam Curry and you could be blogging in Iraq right now. Or Cambridge. Both pretty exotic places, but Cambridge has better falafels given the lack of famine and all.
