“Voting is for old people.” Yet another hip, ironic message from the hip, ironic Urban Outfitters.
Buy this shirt, and you’ll be sending a message People who see you will wonder….
Thanks to Wonkette for this youth-market tinfoil-hat special! |

I love this in relation to your previous entry on 12th grade notes and not getting irony! That t-shirt is a nice example of irony being co-opted into ennui, which in turn is marketed into just what you said, a “youth-market tinfoil-hat special.” But are the kids buying it as ennui or irony or …what?
Hmm, must check out that community on Orkut devoted to message t-shirts (really, there is one, some of the fashionistas are linked to it)….
And remember William Gibson’s Pattern Recognition: Cayce Pollard’s job was “cool hunter,” described also by Naomi Klein (No Logo). The kids are trying to talk, but the corporation is packaging the voice.
